Frode
Gjerstad & Lasse Marhaug
Red
Edge
CD
A
unique collaboration between two legends of Norway's underground music
scene. Free-jazz saxophonist Gjerstad has, over the past 40 years, played
with the likes of Evan Parker, Peter Brøtzmann, William Parker, John
Stevens, Paul Rutherford and Sabeer Mateen. Noise artist Lasse Marhaug is
a member of Jazzkammer, DEL and Origami Replika; and has collaborated with
the likes of Merzbow, Aube, Kevin Drumm and Cock E.S.P. "Red
Edge" is a highly accomplished blend of electronic-noise and free-improv,
showcasing some of the best work from both musicians.

Monotract
/ Decaer Pinga
Out
split 7"
When the junk noise
of crank sturgeon manages to collide with noise-rocking of a load records
band, it's pretty hard to do any wrong. for the unknowing, that is just a
description, not what monotract actually is. whatever that may be is still
unknown. one known thing is their side of this split was recorded live in
japan and it is awesome. decaer's side is a little slower and more
psychadelic than the other releases i have of their's. doesn't sound out
of place compared to any of them though. another fine british export.

U
Can Unlearn Guitar
No
Strings
CD
A
compendium of essential recordings and performances for the unlearned at
heart from this Northern Pennsylvania (via Brooklyn and L.A.)
psycho-genius; needless to say, also a member of the infamous acid-punk
combo BunnyBrains. This comprehensive and incomprehensible compilation
covers no less than 8 years of recorded output, pulling together and best
and most bizarre cuts of acoustic singer-songwriter fare, plunderphonic
experimentation and plain ol' nonsense 'n' noise. One man, but many
personalities - in live performance he finds ever more unique and absurd
ways to destroy and then reconstruct guitars; but on this recorded
document you get glimpses of the most refreshing songwriting in years,
according to Dartmouth music professor and noted composer Larry Polansky,
who contributes the liner notes.

Wrong
Live
At Even Further / High Society
CD
Free
(jazz) mixed with elements of scuzz rock (think Dead C) and more nuanced
Noises. This is the relatively calmer, more music-like project of Emil
Hagstrom (Cock ESP) and some other Minneapolis degenerates/intelligentsia.
Compelling and propulsive. Originally released by blackbean and placenta
and sunship records, now re-pressed on breathmint.

Cock E.S.P.
Menasha
Red Light District
CD
Intense, loud, feedback and violence-ridden noise on fast forward. This
one's unique for the running radio show interview that plays between songs
that adds a human face and a humorous twist to all the chaos. Like you
can't take it all that seriously. But, man, this is some powerful racket..
Originally released by blackbean and placenta and sunship records, now
re-pressed on breathmint.
